The Novak Djokovic soap opera in Australia continues. Pending a court decision on his case, the world number 1 in tennis, who is not vaccinated against Covid-19, will return to administrative detention, according to court documents, Friday January 14. The Serb, whose visa was again canceled by Australia, had obtained the suspension of his expulsion.
The tournament starts on Monday
The presence in Australia of Djokovic, who is not vaccinated against Covid-19, “could encourage anti-vaccination sentiment”, estimated the Australian authorities in a brief presented to the courts, believing that the Serb should be expelled from the country. The fate of the player now depends on the Federal Court.
The first Grand Slam tournament of the year, won nine times by Djokovic, is due to start on Monday. The Serb is supposed to face his compatriot Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round.
